The o1Roadmap: Advancing Mina, Furthering ZK, and Solving Web3’s Biggest Problem

Since 2017, o1Labs has led Mina’s evolution, from zkApps to tools like o1js and Kimchi. Now, we’re unveiling our 2025 roadmap—a collaborative vision shaped with the Mina community.

Deliver the toolkit that Mina developers need to build the next generation of zkApps

One of our priorities is to ensure that zkApp developers are well-equipped and empowered to build the applications they envision. This involves reimagining o1js with a complete API overhaul and delivering robust documentation, tutorials, and example apps. We’re also working on delivering the o1VM, which will bring new capabilities for zkApp development.

Making Mina Fast, Everywhere

Improving Mina’s performance is key to supporting a seamless user and developer experience. In 2025, we’ll focus on reducing slot times to improve transaction finality, optimizing node operation, and applying cutting-edge folding techniques across the network for better scalability. These changes will help ensure Mina’s performance keeps up with the demands of its growing ecosystem.

Solving the State Management Challenge for Web3

State management remains a critical challenge for Mina and the broader blockchain space. To address this, we’re introducing Project Untitled, an innovative approach to managing application state. A project so novel that we haven’t even named it yet! This project aims to redefine how data is stored, updated, and verified in a decentralized world. How We’ve Structured the o1Roadmap

Our roadmap uses a Now, Next, Later framework to communicate priorities clearly. While not everything listed will be completed by the end of 2025, these categories clarify what we’re focusing on:

  • Now: Projects wrapping up or soon to be shipped.
  • Next: Our immediate focus areas.
  • Later: Important and impactful, but since we don’t have unlimited engineers, these are initiatives we need to prioritize later.

Additionally, our roadmap mirrors how our engineering teams are organized by user group. Each focus area aligns with the needs of specific contributors to Mina—zkApp developers, node operators, applied cryptographers, and others. By structuring our efforts this way, we aim to deliver high-impact improvements tailored to our community.
